Introduction to “NAZER DYNASTY”

The basic information of Nazer ancestry has been collected my Yahya Nazer. This is to preserve information for our new generation.

A note for our younger generation:

You may be curious about so many different surnames in the charts in addition to “Nazer” or “Razavi” , which are all related to each other. The reason for this is as follows:

Prior to 1919, use of surnames was not common amongst Iranians. A person was often distinguished from others by a combination of prefixes and suffixes attached to his or her first name, as you can see in case of people listed at the top of the charts.

In 1919, during the reign of Ahmad Shah Qajar and in his 2nd prim minister term (1918-1920), Vosough ol-Dowleh introduced an act to use of surnames.

The practice expanded when Reza Shah Pahlavi ruled (1925–1941). He introduced birth certificates (“Shenasnameh”) as a government document for proof of identity and made adopting a surname mandatory for everyone (circa 1927). Since there were no specific guidelines for selecting a surname, some family members have chosen different surnames than that of their ancestors or even their siblings.
